CDCA Exam Gets a Face Lift

The ADEX Exam

The CDCA – WREB – CITA is the agency that administers ADEX the dental examination to dental licensure candidates across the United States. ADEX clinical exams allow for portable licensure across most state lines. Contact your state dental board to ensure that it accepts this exam.

As of July 1st, 2023, the CDCA – WREB – CITA will be implementing a new fee structure. The ADEX Dental Examination will now cost $2,795 for all components. This price is an increase from $2,560 just last year.

However, candidates will now have access to a complimentary retake for each component of the Commission on Dental Competency Assessment examination. This is if they fail any one CDCA section on their initial attempt. Keep in mind that with every complimentary retake, the candidate will be charged a $150 typodont fee per section retaken. Each additional retake will cost $1,295 per third attempt of each section. The sections are Endodontics, Prosthodontics, Periodontics, and Class II and Class III restorative.

If a retake is needed for the computerized Prometric DSE-OSCE examination, the fee will be $400.

Timelines for the ADEX Exam

Starting on June 15th, candidates will have two weeks to register under the old fee schedule. Fee increases commence on July 1st, 2023. Any candidate who wishes to register for an exam between June 15th and July 1st will still benefit from the complimentary retakes mentioned above.

Additionally, the CDCA-WREB-CITA will also be launching a new Candidate Registration Portal on June 15th, 2023 for the 2023-2024 exam cycle. You can preview what the new portal will look like here.
